A merchant account is a specific bank account that allows the business to accept payment via card payments/online trading. When a customer pays for a product or service via card payment, the funds are first deposited into the merchant account and from there eventually transferred to the business bank account. Merchant account process the card transactions and move funds from your customers issuing banks to your business bank account, once their payments are authorised and ready to be settled by your acquirer. A retail store owner is an example of a merchant account.
