FSSAI, established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, of 2006, is an autonomous regulatory authority established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to oversee the safety and hygiene of food products in India. The organization sets standards for food products and regulates their manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale, and import to ensure the safety of consumers. Food Business Operators (FBOs) must print the 14-digit FSSAI license/registration number issued by the FSSAI on their food packages, as a mark of adherence to certain standards. The FSSAI licensing and registration procedure and requirements are regulated by the Food Safety & Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011. The license is categorized based on the scale and nature of the food business. The license is valid for 1 to 5 years.
